Debate on High School Completion

Recent reports have claimed only two-thirds of all students—and only half of blacks and Hispanics—graduate from high school. But are those reports seriously flawed? And what does the most accurate data possible say about America's high school completion picture?

This debate, between Economic Policy Institute President Lawrence Mishel (co-author of Rethinking High School Graduation Rates and Trends) and Manhattan Institute senior fellow Jay P. Greene, may shed some light on this issue. The debate focused on their differing analyses of graduation rates nationwide. The Center on Education Policy (CEP) hosted the debate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
