What we can learn from
the low-wage labor market

As the nation continues to "get tough" on crime by mandating longer incarcerations and building more prisons, the clear link between crime and labor market opportunity is often ignored in policy debates. Adopting certain market policies would not only lift the economic prospects of many low-wage workers, but also pay off in the long run by offering potential criminals a legitimate alternative to crime.
